The Empty King
Jesus came as a King to be emptied of Himself. In His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, Jesus is celebrated, worshipped, and praised. Yet He knew that only a few days later, he would be mocked, ridiculed, and crucified. Jesus knew that he would be emptied so that we may be full. He allowed Himself to be poured out because of His great love for us. An amazing part of this story is that the night before His triumphal entry, a woman came to the house where He was eating, and worshipped Him by pouring out what was likely the most expensive thing she owned onto His feet. She poured out her fragrant perfume and washed His feet with her tears and her hair. What a beautiful foreshadowing of what was to come!
It was with this beautiful act of worship on His mind that he entered into Jerusalem, and then later went on to be crucified.
There is power in emptiness, and it is not until we can fully empty ourselves that God can fill us up. Jesus was emptied completely so that we may be full of all that God has for us - and full of His Spirit.
